The "Two Stone Honing System" developed by the Superior Honing
Equipment Co. of Sarasota, Florida has in tests found their two
stone system reduced the cost of replacement stones by as much
as 50% compared to other systems.
This reduction is possible for several
reasons. In the Superior system, the mandrel never wears out and
virtually requires no replacement.
There is also a reduction in change-over
time, and stone and mandrel inventory is cut in half.
The stones last up to 10 times longer,
and for example; the stone costs per set are less than 50% of
the Sunnen system.
An important added benefit is that the
two stone system always runs on center and therefore hones more
accurately.
